Bangin' Black Bean Brownies

3 Ways to KICK the SUGAR HABIT + RECIPE 👊🏽(hint: you can still eat sweets)

I like sweet stuff. Your homegirl grew up sprinkling snowy white sugar on her frosted flakes. The grit of the crystals in my mouth made me feel like I was overdoing it, so I swirled them around until I could only taste the sweet sand at the bottom of the bowl (am I the only one 🤔?). My brother was straight sugar–he’d put that thing in his soda 🙄

Truth is, there is NOTHING good about processed sugar. It contains:

🚫no protein
🚫no essential fats
🚫no nutrients
🚫no vitamins
🚫no minerals

It just robs you of health, can lead to the development of cancer, damages your liver, and more yuck.

So what did I do to kick the sugar habit and STILL satisfy my sugar tooth?

✔️I switched my sugar. I went from refined sugar to natural sweeteners–dates, raisins, black-strap molasses, chicory root, and coconut palm sugar & maple syrup (more sparingly)

✔️I did a 10-day raw fast cleanse to detox and reset my palate

✔️I learned to enjoy the natural sweetness from bananas, pineapple, and berries (THE BEST) and accept that I didn’t need sweets after every meal (it worked)

And I make these BANGIN’ brownies that always hit the spot 🤤

    Hey Mel,

Tonight was my second time trying this recipe. My husband really liked it. Before we could finish the first pan he asked could I make another one. Thumbs up for a great recipe.

hi, this recipe looks so delicious. Are there any substitute options for the nut butter by chance? My little one has nut allergies.

The nut butter is actually a sub for oil. I have not personally tried sunflower seed butter for this recipe, but it may do the trick for you.
